Agency Introduction

by Apr 13, 2020

Hello Wisconsin!

Thank you for visiting our page and welcome to the education center for Patch Adams & Associates! The primary focus of this page is going to be to provide you with educational material, resources and insights about what you need to know to best take advantage of your healthcare and protect your future. We will also include occasional agency updates and information about our community involvement.

I’m going to use this first post to give you some insight into who I am and what we’re all about so you have a chance to get to know us a little bit. My name is Patrick Adams. My grandpa gave me the nickname of ‘Patch’ when I was just a baby because my mom believed that ‘Pat’ was a girl’s name (I know what you’re thinking – then why name your son Patrick?). Like many kids, I didn’t like having a “different” name growing up but once the movie “Patch Adams” was released there was no more trying to shake it. Suddenly, I was Patch Adams to everybody. Fast forward some years later and I’m very  pleased to have such a memorable name.. it especially helps with my clients as you can imagine!

Today, I live in Sheboygan with my wife, daughter who is nearly 16 months old and our four year old lab mix we got from the shelter a few years ago. Up until we had our daughter our hobbies included camping, the gym, triathlons, hiking and good beer with friends. It seems now our hobbies include watching “Baby Shark” on repeat, singing “Wheels on the Bus”, sharing our snacks and laughing at the dog. Turns out children are just as much work as everybody said! My wife and I both work full-time – she’s an accountant in the food industry and I’m the agency principal for Patch Adams & Associates. Now that you know a little about me personally, I’ll share my professional background in this industry.

It all started by chance several years ago when a friend of mine told me about an opening in his sales department with one of the top insurance carriers in the country. Long story short, I trusted his judgment and accepted a position within their Medicare and Retirement department that required me to be a licensed health insurance agent in all 50 states. In the type of environment I was in I took calls from about 30-50 people per day and helped educate them on how Medicare worked, reviewed their medical and prescription needs, covered their options and helped them enroll into the plan that would fit their needs the best and save them the most money with that insurance carrier. I loved my work and took great pride in the helping others. However, there were many things I wasn’t able to do once that call was over included: helping them with their provider concerns, assisting in correcting a claim that was billed incorrectly or advising them on options that would save them more money as their health conditions changed or as new plans entered the marketplace. You see, once that call was over I never had contact with them again – they were stuck calling 1-800 customer service hoping they got to the right department and reached someone who had the right answers.

A few years later my wife and I moved down to where we are now to be closer to her family. Shortly afterwards I made the decision to leave the company as an employee and become an independent broker – forming Patch Adams & Associates. Now I get to do exactly what I was doing before but it’s right in my local community and I get to build on that relationship and help my clients throughout their entire Medicare journey! This way of conducting business is much more rewarding but I couldn’t replace those years in the call center environment due to the sheer number of people I talked to on a daily basis. I helped more people in one month than most agents talk with all year! Bringing that experience with me into our agency has been extremely valuable and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to start my career this way.

Today Patch Adams & Associates is a full service Health and Life Insurance Agency.  We aren’t like every other agency trying to get business in every possible area of insurance out there. We focus specifically on the Medicare eligible population and their needs. Helping with their Medicare insurance, their spouse who isn’t 65 yet but needs coverage, their final expense insurance needs and a host of other health and life concerns that are specific to this population. This is what we are experts in and this is the way we’re going to keep it!

I hope you have enjoyed learning a little about us. And if you’ve made it all the way to the end, thank you and please say hi! We will be here, doing what’s right.
